Y-camp 2006 and Sand Castle

It has been a long time since I last wrote…close to Easter Sunday haha… anyway…. just want to let you guys know that Sand Castle building is fun!!! haha…I had tried before, those small small type, but always unsuccessful. Maybe before I touch on the building sandcastle part, let me just share why I had a chance to go learn how to build sand castle.

I am currently trying to clear my 60 hours of community service hours. Stupid ford for not claiming for all the com service that I did over the 3 years, which is no point to complain now. Anyway, I am helping out in Y-camp, which is organized by YMCA. Is YMCA =Young Men Christian Academy? (haha I not sure what exactly is stand for). This camp is meant for intellectual disabled friends to enjoy themselves with fun filing activities which the Y-camp committee had planned. Perhaps maybe you would ask, why would our friends enjoy themselves? I believe that this is due to the ignorance of us- the so called perfect people. People like us think that these friends of us are infectious, affecting the selfish ourselves and our children. One real life experience which was shared by our mentors in the camp actually epitomized the human's selfishness and ignorance: Through his/her willingness to learn and his/her determination to be independent, one of our friends with Down syndrome had learnt how to be go home by the MRT. As simple as it sounds, it really takes a hard effort to face the society and to face us. So one day, he/she was going home with the MRT. When he/she went into the train, he/she saw a seat and sat on it. Beside him/her was a pregnant lady. Upon seeing he/her, she stood up and walk away.

Our friends although might have difficulties in expressing themselves, but this does not mean that they do not have feelings. He/she is equally as you and I. Our friends have feelings too…I am not saying I am altruistic or I am soooooo kind. I am also guilty of these selfish acts. But I hope that we would be able to realize that we need to do the right thing and hopefully, we will integrate our friends into the society. It is all about making that small effort.Okie, anyway I think the camp is damn meaningful. Although I organized a lot of camps before, this is the first time I am helping out in such a camp.

Back to Sandcastle building, which is one of the activities for our friends during the camp….. Why sandcastle? It is because it is relatively easier (i mean as compared to Kayating which other groups during the camp would be doing). The SMU group, which we call ourselves the Spunkians, are taking care of friends from COH (Christian Outreach for the Handicapped). These friends generally have a lower IQ and take longer time in learning things. Thus, sandcastle would be an ideal activity for them! :)

Sandcastle is damn fun. There are all the tools that we needed for building nice looking castles. (but the tools damn expensive – $30 one set- but long lasting one la, can reuse reuse and reuse) Currently we are looking for people who are willing to help buy the sets. If you cant chu(4) the effort, chu(4) the money. haha..buy through us would be $20 and we will retun you after the camp. next time when u go sandcastle building, people would be Wowed..haha. The place best for building sandcastle is at East Coast Park (correct me if I am wrong), behind the lagoon hawker centre. A picture paints more words. So let them speak for themselves:

God Bless!
